Common Horse Breeds

There are hundreds of different Horse breeds. Petcover will look at some of the most common breeds.

  1. The Thoroughbred
    The Thoroughbred is best known for their use in racing. They are known for their agility and speed. They are also breed for riding disciplines such as show jumping, dressage and polo.
  1. The Arabian
    The Arabian is one of the oldest and most recognised breeds in the world due to their distinctive head shape and high tail carriage. They have a high spirit and intelligence making them quick learners.
  1. The Standardbred
    The Standardbred is best known for their ability in Harness Racing. Standardbreds are generally more muscled with longer bodies than the Thoroughbred. They are considered to be very easy to train Horses.
  1. The Clydesdale
    The Clydesdale was initially a small breed but was later bred to be taller for shows. They are well muscled and strong, with an arched neck and sloped shoulders.
  1. The Shetland Pony
    Shetland ponies are generally intelligent, gentle and well-tempered. They are loved for their small stature but they are strong for their size, making them great for children to ride.
